About the Game

A card game about turning research into product

Players take the role of a sciencepreneur: buying raw materials from the market, assembling two matched inputs into a futuristic science product — from cultured meat to health biosensors — then deciding when to sell and when to hold. This edition is deliberately tight: raw materials are never free, cash is scarce, and your hand is capped at seven cards.

Learning Through Play

The deepest learning often happens when we forget we are learning

Inspired by Ki Hajar Dewantara's Among system, these cards never lecture. There is no "wrong, try again" — only the natural consequence of each decision: if capital runs short, the product cannot be assembled; if a risk goes unhedged, the opportunity may be gone by the next turn.

At the same table, a teenager counts play money and laughs, while an adult argues — smiling — about market prices and loan multiples. Both are learning. Both feel like they are only playing.

Core Loop

2 matched raw materials → 1 high-value product

Each raw material has exactly one fixed partner, and each pair yields exactly one product.

1 · Buy

Raw Material Market

6 face-up cards in the middle

Raw materials are never free after the starting capital. Each turn you choose one: buy a raw material from the market, or draw an Action card. The market refills the moment something is bought.

  • Starting capital is only 50 — below the price of the cheapest pair (80)
  • One free raw material at setup — the only free one in the whole game
2 · Assemble

Commercialisation

Free — no extra cost

Collect exactly two matched raw materials, hand them in, take the product card. The product goes face down in front of you — opponents only know how many you hold, never which ones.

  • Products cannot be bought outright — assembling is the only way to make a new one
  • Face-down products do not count towards the 7-card hand limit
3 · Decide

Sell or Hold

Two prices, two strategies

Every product carries two prices: the Bank Sale Price (instant cash, lower) and the Market Price (end-game score, higher). Selling early buys you room to move; holding buys you points.

  • Cultured Meat: 150 if sold now, 180 if held to the end
  • Sold products enter the bank's stock and can be bought back by anyone at Market Price

🏦 Bank loans at a 1.5× multiple

Because starting capital is deliberately thin, the bank offers loans of 100, 200 or 300 at any time. But debt is recorded at 1.5× the principal — borrow 100, owe 150 — and the full amount is deducted from your final score. Debt cards stay face down, so opponents never know how deep you are in.
