🏭 Hilirisasi Edition · Official Rulebook
2 Matched Raw Materials → 1 High-Value Product
You are a sciencepreneur. Buy raw materials, combine exactly two matched inputs into a futuristic science product, then sell it or hold it to the end of the game. The winner is the player with the highest final score.
Objective
A deliberately tighter edition
Raw materials are never free, cash is scarce, and your hand is capped at seven cards — so every decision to buy, build or sell actually matters.
| Component | Count | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Raw Material cards | 40 | 20 types, each with one fixed partner and one target product. Held in hand, visible only to you. |
| Product cards | 20 | 10 types, each with two prices (Market & Bank). Kept face down in front of you. |
| Action cards | 37 | Five categories: Attack, Market, Collaboration, Protect and Utility. |
| Debt cards | 12 | Three loan sizes (100 / 200 / 300), four cards each. Managed by the bank. |
| Money cards | — | Managed collectively as the bank's holdings. |
How to Play
From setup to the end of the game
Setup
- Shuffle the 40 Raw Material cards. Place 6 face-up cards in the middle of the table as the Raw Material Market; the rest becomes a face-down refill pile.
- Lay out the 20 Product cards face up as the Product Catalogue — this is the bank's stock, separate from the players' face-down products.
- Shuffle the 37 Action cards into one face-down deck.
- Each player receives 50 cash and 1 free random Raw Material card — the only free raw material in the entire game.
- The youngest player is suggested to go first. Turns proceed clockwise — this order also decides who counts as your "left/right neighbour" for Action cards.
Player turn — Phase 1: Market
Choose one: buy 1 Raw Material card from the Market (pay the Buy Price; the Market refills immediately), or draw 1 Action card (free to draw, though its effect may still cost you).
Player turn — Phase 2: Main Actions
Do as many as you like, in any order:
- Build a product from two matched raw materials
- Sell raw materials or products to the bank or to other players
- Buy back a product previously sold to the bank, at the Market Price
- Play an Action card from your hand
End your turn by checking the 7-Card Limit before play passes on.
How to build a product
- Collect exactly 2 matched Raw Material cards — the partner is printed on each card.
- Hand both to the discard pile, take the matching Product card from the Catalogue, then place it face down in front of you. There is no additional cost.
- Face-down products are not counted towards the 7-Card Limit.
A worked example
You buy Cultured Muscle Cells (40) then Cell Nutrient Medium (40) — 80 cash spent. Combine the two → you receive the Cultured Meat card for free, placed face down in front of you at once.
Cultured Meat can be sold to the bank for 150 (an instant profit of 70), or held until the end of the game where it is worth 180 in final scoring (a profit of 100 on 80 invested). If you change your mind after selling, the card can be bought back from the bank for 180 — the bank pockets 30 on that spread.
Selling and buying back
- To the bank: raw materials sell at the Bank Sale Price, and so do products. Cash is received instantly; the product card leaves your face-down pile and enters the bank's buy-back stock.
- To other players: the reference for raw materials is the Buy Price. For products the reference equals the Bank Sale Price, but it may be negotiated ±10 (a reference of 150 → any figure between 140 and 160 may be agreed). No one is obliged to trade.
- Buying back: a product sitting in the bank's buy-back stock may be repurchased by any player at the Market Price. A product nobody has ever built cannot be bought outright from the Catalogue — the only way to obtain a new product is to assemble it yourself.
The 7-card limit
- Raw Materials + any Action cards you are holding + Money cards in hand may not exceed 7 cards at the end of your turn.
- If you are over, you must immediately sell or discard down to exactly 7. Raw materials sold this way pay out at the Bank Sale Price.
- Product cards and Debt cards are not counted — both sit face down, separate from your hand, however many you hold.
End of the game
The game ends as soon as the Raw Material Market refill pile runs out and can no longer be replenished, once the current turn has finished. At that point every player reveals their entire face-down Product and Debt piles for counting.
Menentukan Pemenang
Final scoring formula
Final Score
Cash + Total Market Price of Products Held + Total Bank Sale Price of Leftover Raw Materials − Total Debt Recorded
Unprocessed raw materials are valued lower — at the Bank Sale Price, not the Market Price — because they have not been through downstreaming. This pushes players to finish what they start. Total Debt Recorded is the sum of the "Debt Recorded" figures (the 1.5× multiplier already included) across every Debt card ever taken. The highest score wins; on a tie, the most cash wins.
| Loan Type | Cash Received | Debt Recorded | Number of Cards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Debt 100 | 100 | 150 | 4 |
| Debt 200 | 200 | 300 | 4 |
| Debt 300 | 300 | 450 | 4 |
Debt Recorded = 1.5× Cash Received. Kept face down alongside your Product pile.
Action cards
Five categories, 37 cards
Action cards make the game feel like a real market: some attack, some move prices, and some are mutually beneficial.
| Category | How it works |
|---|---|
| ⚔️ Attack | Targets your left- or right-hand neighbour. Effects vary: Take a Raw Material, Take a Product, or Seize to the Bank. Draws are always random and blind — your opponent never has to reveal their cards. If they have nothing to take, they pay a penalty equal to the Buy Price of the cheapest raw material currently showing in the Market. |
| 🔍 Financial Audit | Four Attack-category cards that may target any player. You freely pick 1 raw material from the target — it need not be the cheapest — and buy it by paying its Buy Price. |
| 📈 Market | Simulates real market dynamics. Demand Surge raises the price of one product type by 20 for every card of that type in anyone's hand. New Competitor Enters lowers it. Market Recession makes every player — you included — pay 10 to the bank. |
| 🤝 Collaboration | The only mutually beneficial category, and it needs another player's consent to activate. Trade Collaboration gives 10 cash to both sides. Regional Research Grant gives 20 cash for free — rare, only 2 cards in the whole deck. |
| 🛡️ Protect | Six cards, kept in hand and played reactively, out of turn — the moment you become the target of any Attack card, Financial Audit included. Cancels its effect entirely. |
| ⚙️ Utility | Played on your own turn. Extra Turn lets you buy 1 additional raw material. Trade Expedition lets you look at the top 3 cards of the refill pile and rearrange their order. |

Game design
Why the rules are this tight
No get-rich-quick route
The only sources of cash are selling raw materials/products or taking on debt — and each has a consequence.
Starting capital is deliberately tight
50 in capital sits below the cost of the cheapest pair of raw materials (80), so players almost always need thrift or a loan in the opening rounds — much like real seed capital.
Loans are not free money
The 1.5× multiplier is deducted in full from the final score, spread included — so borrowing always needs thinking through.
Explicit trade-offs
Holding a product earns the higher Market Price; selling fast earns instant cash at a lower one. Both are legitimate.
Player-to-player trade is encouraged
Buying from another player (Bank Price as the reference, ±10 negotiable) is always cheaper than buying back from the bank (Market Price).
Products and debts stay hidden
Opponents never truly know who is ahead until final scoring — the competition stays real without the leader being ganged up on.
